Overseas Staff

Projects Abroad offers unparalleled overseas back-up for our volunteers worldwide. We employ more than 600 staff who are there to help you settle in and support you throughout your stay.

In every destination we have a Country Director and a staffed office. The staff in our destinations have a wealth of local knowledge and all our Country Directors have received training in Britain or the US and understand the needs of our volunteers. They are available by day at the local office, or 24 hours a day by phone.

Ines Mariani - Country Director

Ines Mariani - Country Director

Ines joined Projects Abroad in April 2007. She lives in Cordoba where she is studying tourism. She likes meeting people from all over the world and loves traveling. In her free time she enjoys being with friends, having barbecues with her family, reading novels and watching movies.

Kristin Marin - Country Director

Kristin Marin - Country Director

Kristin was born and raised in Belize. After studying Economics in the US, she moved to London to pursue a Master in Social Policy and Development. She enjoyed travelling Europe, South Africa, and Hong Kong during that year and hopes to see more of the world very soon! Kristin is passionate about criminal justice and aims for all the projects in Belize help to combat the root causes of violence in Belize.

Carmen Herbas - Country Director

Carmen Herbas - Country Director

Carmen has worked with Projects Abroad since 2003 and took over as the Country Director in June 2011. Originally from La Paz, Carmen moved to Cochabamba with her parents and brothers in 1998. Carmen is a graduate of the Linguistics Department of UMSS and enjoys spending her free time reading and with her son, Adrian.

Boeb Chhoem - Country Director

Boeb Chhoem - Country Director

Boeb was born in Battambang, the capital of Battambang Province and Cambodia's second-largest city. He has bachelor’s degrees in both human resources and education, as well as a master’s degree in business administration. Before Boeb started working at Projects Abroad he gained experience in leadership and management by working with various international volunteer organisations and local NGOs. During his free time, he enjoys going to the gym and reading the news.

Tifa Wang - Country Director

Tifa Wang - Country Director

Tifa was born in Fujian, a province in southern China. She later moved to Confucious in northern China, where she studied towards her bachelor’s degree at Shandong University. She is always ready for a challenge and worked with different people worldwide before joining Projects Abroad in June 2017. Tifa is an open-minded person and enjoys travelling and trying new things during her free time.

Luis Arguedas - Country Director

Luis Arguedas - Country Director

Luis joined Projects Abroad in July 2006 and has both Canadian and Costa Rican citizenship. Luis speaks English, French and Spanish and before joining the Costa Rica team he worked at the National University of Costa Rica teaching tourism and business administration. In his free time Luis enjoys going to the beach, cycling, watching movies and playing the saxophone.

William Puga Vasquez - Country Director

William Puga Vasquez - Country Director

William was born in the Galapagos on the island of San Cristobal. He has worked with volunteers for more than 15 years and has worked for various organizations, such as the Galapagos National Park. Besides being the Director for Projects Abroad Ecuador, he is also the town’s councilor for San Cristobal Municipality and has spent many years improving the local education system through government and community programs. William enjoys swimming and hiking in his spare time.

Weini Melkamu - Volunteer Coordinator

Weini started working for Projects Abroad in April 2009. Before become a Volunteer Coordinator, she was the Desk Officer for nearly five years. Before she started working at Projects Abroad, Weini lived in Italy and Norway for five years. She has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Bharati Vidiyapeeth, Pune, India.

Karishma Nandan - Country Director

Karishma Nandan - Country Director

Karishma was born and raised in Nadi and went on to complete her degree in marine studies from the University of South Pacific in Suva. After her studies, Karishma volunteered for two years with various NGOs in Suva before joining Projects Abroad in 2011. Since then, she has also completed a master’s degree in business administration. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

Emmanuel Abaaja - Country Director

Emmanuel Abaaja - Country Director

Emmanuel took over as Director in Ghana in March 2012. He joined Projects Abroad back in 2002 after completing his national service as a teacher. Emmanuel was Regional Manager of the Akuapem Hills for 8 years from 2004. Emmanuel holds a BSc from Legon University in Accra. He is a very active member of his local church and a proud father to his two daughters.

Mariam Yousef - Volunteer Coordinator

Mariam Yousef - Volunteer Coordinator

Mariam was born in Palestine and she lived in the Middle East for 19 years. She now lives and works in Italy. She has been with Projects Abroad since September 2017, working closely with our volunteers. Mariam enjoys meeting new people and learning more about their cultures and countries. She spends her free time practising her cooking, or watching programmes about the diverse cultures of the world.

Kay Hendricks - Country Director

Kay Hendricks - Country Director

Kay joined the Projects Abroad team in February 2016. A native of Manchester, Jamaica, she spent many years engaged in developmental work with a focus on youth, community, the disabled and workplace capacity building. She has a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Development and several professional certifications including Project Management and Training. In her spare time she enjoys travelling and relaxing on the beach. She believes in service with a purpose and enjoys participating in voluntary projects aimed at empowering marginalised people.

Carol Mungai - Country Director

Carol joined Projects Abroad in May 2013 as the Medical Coordinator for Kenya. She studied medical laboratory science and in her free time she enjoys dancing, traveling and making new friends.

Tojo Ramaroson - Country Director

Tojo Ramaroson - Country Director

Tojo was born in Toliara, Madagascar and has lived and worked all over the world for more than 20 years. He has a Masters degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex University, specialising in global health (nutrition and WASH). Before joining Projects Abroad Madagascar in 2016, he was a content manager for a newspaper/magazine company called Circle Yemen in Sana’a. He also did some consulting in development with UNICEF Yemen and the French Red Cross. He enjoys a good political discussion, travelling, watching movies and playing with his four-year-old son.

Oliver Garcia - Country Director

Oliver Garcia - Country Director

Oliver is an experienced diver who worked for two years in la Paz Baja California in the north of Mexico as manager of a diving school, while he was also studying marine biology. He joined Projects Abroad in February 2005, just before we moved to our current Turtle Camp in Tecoman, where worked as the conservation manager. In 2015 Oliver become the country director for Projects Abroad Mexico.

Otgonbayar Togtuun - Director of Finance

Oko is both the Director of our projects in Mongolia and the Director of Finance. Oko has spent time working in Korea and the UK. He now enjoys living back in Ulaanbaatar with his wife and three children. Having studied for his MBA in Korea, he returned home to Mongolia with his Korean wife, Sang Em. He enjoys singing and is famed for his karaoke skills. He was 5 times gold medalist in athletics when he was a high school student.

Saad Rbiai - Country Director

Saad was born in Fes and grew up in Rabat. He has previously worked as a clinical psychologist for the American Peace Corps in Morocco and was also an Exchange Coordinator for the U.S. State Department where he organised cultural exchanges between American and Moroccan youth. Saad has taught Arabic and English at various International Schools and Embassies in Morocco.

Mirko Kolan - Volunteer Advisor

Mirko Kolan - Volunteer Advisor

Born and raised in a small town of central Italy, Mirko studied HR training and development at the University of Rome. He traveled extensively and lived in the US, Mexico, Holland, Cyprus and South Africa. He joined Projects Abroad in March 2014 as Volunteer Advisor for Nepal and all Italian volunteers. Besides traveling, Mirko enjoys sport, nature and outdoor activities, photography and writing. His personal life motto is "dreams are made to be realized".

Irazema Arizabal - Country Director

Irazema Arizabal - Country Director

Irazema became part of the Peru team in January 2003. She was born and raised in Cusco and studied Business Administration at the National University of Cusco. She previously worked as a pre-school teacher and later an analyst credit investigator for various financial companies. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching movies and travelling, as well as meeting and interacting with new people.

Stuart Timson - Director

Stuart Timson - Director

Stuart is from Cheltenham, England, but has been living and working in Peru since 1998. He studied Biology at Oxford University before getting involved with conservation in the field. After spending several years guiding for eco-lodges in both Peru and Bolivia he set up the Taricaya Lodge on the Madre de Dios river from scratch in 2001. In his spare time Stuart can turn his hand to most sports.

Ayessa Arnoco - Public Health Project Coordinator

Ayessa was born and raised in Bogo City and has always loved being around people. She is a registered nurse and previously worked as an English teacher and coordinator for non-English speakers. Aside from reading pocketbooks, she spends her free time experimenting with foods and eating.

Razvan Voica - Country Director

Razvan is the Country Director for Romania. As a trained forestry engineer, Razvan feels at ease with any subject linked to alpine and sub-alpine wildlife. He is also a passionate reader and only spending time with his family can take him away from his job or his books.

Temukisa Poliko - Country Director

Temukisa was born and raised in New Zealand where she acquired a degree in communications. In 2014, she moved to Samoa and later joined Projects Abroad in October 2016. Temukisa loves learning about new cultures and meeting volunteers from all over the world. She has a passion for teaching and helping others, and wants to further her studies in education. In her spare time you can find her out enjoying the sun or spending some time on the beach

Amadou Moctar Ba - Country Director

Moctar first joined the team in Senegal as a French/English translator, but he soon fell in love with Projects Abroad and took over as Country Director in April 2007. Moctar used to work as a local English teacher and he remains a key link between the local community and schools of St. Louis and the volunteers.

Justine McCarthy - Country Director

Justine McCarthy - Country Director

Justine was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. She is passionate about environmental conservation and has an Honours in Environmental and Geographic Science, and a Master of Philosophy in Environmental Law. Justine has been with Projects Abroad since January 2014. She started out as a volunteer advisor and work her way up to head of administrative services, operations manager and now country director for South Africa. In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors, scuba diving, meeting new people and travelling. Justine has travelled extensively through Europe, and most recently visited Bolivia, Argentina, Fiji and Cyprus.

Dr Helena Fitchat - Conservation Director

Dr Helena Fitchat - Conservation Director

Helena has spent over 30 years on and off in the wilderness. She is an expert tracker, has crossed the Kalahari Desert on her own and lived with Bushmen for a year. She is also a pilot, a biologist specializing in animal behavior (for which she obtained her PhD), and she single-handedly navigated her way through the vast Okavango Delta in a leaking boat and survived! For 10 years she was the Operations Director of The Center for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) in Durban, South Africa.

Gishan Perera - Country Director

Gishan became part of the Sri Lankan team in May 2006. Before he joined Projects Abroad, he gained experience in many different fields, such as IT, Agriculture and Travel and Tourism. Gishan took over as the Country Director for Sri Lanka in October 2013, he is a very enthusiastic person who enjoys sharing his knowledge of the Sri Lankan way of life.

Glory Matoi Godfrey - Country Director

Glory Matoi Godfrey - Country Director

Glory took over as Tanzania Country Director in October 2012. She previously worked as Desk Officer and Program Coordinator after joining Projects Abroad in June 2010. She enjoys introducing volunteers to Tanzania. Glory has previously spent a year in Germany as a volunteer and has a good command of the language. She is best known around the office for her professional attire, ever-changing hairdos, and love of chocolate.

Parichart Chaipikul (Ant) - Country Director

Ant started working as the Director of our teaching and care projects in July 2007 after moving to Krabi from Chang Mai. She used to work in the shipping business. She took over as Thailand Country Director in November 2012. She enjoys working with people from all over the world and in her free time likes travel, photography and spending time with her boyfriend.

Kevin Fiashinou - Country Director

Kevin Fiashinou - Country Director

Kevin was born in Lomé, the capital of Togo. After acquiring his degree in law from the University of Lomé, he furthered his education and studied English at the East Anglia University in Cambridge. Kevin is passionate about giving back and has spent many hours volunteering on youth development programmes. He has had the opportunity to travel to many places around the world including the UK, America, China, Germany, France, Spain, South Africa, Kenya and Italy, but Togo will always remain his home. He joined Projects Abroad in October 2016 and says that anyone visiting Togo should have an open mind and be flexible. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys reading and playing sports, especially football.

Phuong Linh - Country Director

Phuong Linh was born in Hanoi. Prior to joining Projects Abroad she worked for a Canadian NGO. She graduated from the Academy of Finance in Hanoi and gained an MBA from the United Business Institute in Brussels. In her free time she enjoys traveling, learning new things and going to yoga classes.
