Peter Slowe - Executive Chair

Peter Slowe - Executive Chair

Before starting Projects Abroad in 1992, Peter Slowe was a distinguished geographer and author, specializing in political biography, political geography and military history, based at the University of Chichester. As Chair of the Labor Party's Finance and Industry Group, Peter was an economic advisor to Tony Blair and his government. Over the last two decades, as Projects Abroad has grown, it has taken up more of Peter's time. He is actively involved with all aspects of the business from setting up new destinations to supervising recruitment campaigns in the US and Continental Europe. Peter was born in 1953, and he and his wife Karen have one son.

Greg Thomson - Chief Executive Officer

Greg Thomson - Chief Executive Officer

After graduating from a Politics degree at Edinburgh University, Greg volunteered with Projects Abroad as a Teaching volunteer in China. He then spent a year working in our India and Thailand offices before joining the UK office in 2001. Greg has done a variety of roles for Projects Abroad including Desk Officer, Operations Manager, Country Director for Ghana and Head of Global Operations. Greg was appointed CEO in August 2016. As CEO, he oversees and supervises all aspects of the company and is responsible for setting and delivering Projects Abroad’s strategic objectives. In his spare time he enjoys travelling, playing golf and tennis, going to gigs and walking his dog, McTavish.

Overseas Team

Jessi Warner - Operations Director

Jessi Warner - Operations Director

Originally from Ireland, Jessi started with Projects Abroad as a Teaching volunteer in Costa Rica before moving to our Irish Recruitment Team. Since moving to Operations she has worked in 11 destinations and has experience as a Volunteer Coordinator, Operations Manager and Country Director. She joined the Head Office team in 2014 when she took on the role of Head of Programme Development, making sure every project has long term goals and that the impact of volunteers is being monitored. She has been Operations Director since August 2016.

Somi Cho - Deputy Operations Director

Somi Cho - Deputy Operations Director

Born and raised in South Korea, Somi graduated with a degree in Arabic and Middle Eastern studies and went on to complete an MA in social sciences from the American University of Beirut. She lived in the Middle East for nearly eight years (Syria, Lebanon, and the West Bank) volunteering and working with NGOs. She joined the Projects Abroad team in 2012 and enjoys working with people from all over the world.

Ligaya Basalo - Operations Manager

Ligaya Basalo - Operations Manager

Ligaya, a native from the Philippines, joined Projects Abroad Sri Lanka in 2005 and worked as Desk Officer for 4 years before moving on to work as Alumni Manager till 2011. Ligaya joined the Operations Team in 2012 and now liaises with our overseas teams on a regular basis.

Mircea Samoila - Operations Manager

Mircea Samoila - Operations Manager

Since he started working for Projects Abroad, Mircea has gained experience in the UK, Sri Lanka, Togo, Ghana, Ethiopia, Romania, Morocco, Argentina, Jamaica, Moldova and, not in the least, in his favorite country, India. A man of eclectic tastes, Mircea loves comparative literature and religion, riding motorcycles and playing tennis.

Jerylee Wong - Operations Manager

Jerylee Wong - Operations Manager

Jerylee Wong was born in Guadalajara, and originally joined Projects Abroad in 2003 working in our Mexican office. She has also worked in a number of our other destinations including Ghana, Ethiopia, and was Country Director for Tanzania for over a year. Jerylee studied her masters in International Strategic Management in Sweden. She enjoys playing tennis, cooking and traveling.

Georgi Poparad - Operations Manager

Georgi Poparad - Operations Manager

Georgi has been with Projects Abroad since 2013. She worked for the Romanian and the Canadian office, but her continuous quest for new adventures and challenges brought her to Nepal in July 2015 when she joined the team in Chitwan. Currently based in Kathmandu, Georgi is happy to be part of the Projects Abroad family. She enjoys exploring the world, reading, swimming, horseback riding and dancing.

Abbey Hampton - UK Travel and Administration Manager

Abbey makes sure that volunteers and staff arrive in the right place at the right time by ensuring co-ordination between our recruitment and administration offices, especially for international flights used by our volunteers and staff. Abbey also helps to run our general administration in the UK.

Serena Wingate - UK Company Accounts Manager

Serena Wingate - UK Company Accounts Manager

Serena is responsible to the Director of Finance for managing financial matters in our organisation and ensuring each overseas programme is appropriately funded.

Alenka Sheikh - Accounts Assistant

Alenka Sheikh - Accounts Assistant

Alenka joined Projects Abroad in March 2010. She first worked in an administration role but she now provides full support to the Accounts Manager in all financial matters. She spends her free time with her husband and two daughters and very much looks forward to her annual holidays back in her homeland of Slovakia.

Karen has set-up, and now manages, our travel and human resource systems.

Antony Squires - Administrator

Antony Squires - Administrator

Antony is involved in all areas of general administration, with a particular emphasis on dealing with the initial stages of your application and chasing up visas. Outside of work he divides his time between his passions for cycling, music and darts.

Otgonbayar Togtuun - Director of Finance

Otgonbayar Togtuun - Director of Finance

Oko is both the Director of our projects in Mongolia and the Director of Finance. Oko has spent time working in Korea and the UK. He now enjoys living back in Ulaanbaatar with his wife and three children. Having studied for his MBA in Korea, he returned home to Mongolia with his Korean wife, Sang Em. He enjoys singing and is famed for his karaoke skills. He was 5 times gold medalist in athletics when he was a high school student.

Usukhjargal Zorigt - Finance Officer

Usukhjargal Zorigt - Finance Officer

Usuhuu joined Projects Abroad in May 2006 after graduating in International Business Administration from the Computer Science & Management School of MUST. She provides support to Oko in his role as Finance Director. Nobody has ever seen Usuhuu without a huge smile on her face. In her spare time she enjoys reading, music, dancing and spending time with her friends.

Naranbat Zorigtbaatar - Finance Officer

Naranbat Zorigtbaatar - Finance Officer

Naranbat joined the Projects Abroad finance team in August 2008 after graduating from the Mongolian National University School of Economic Studies as a finance manager. He provides support to Oko in his role as Finance Director. He's a good team worker and also a very good table tennis player.

Khaliun Sumiyahuu - Finance Officer

Khaliun Sumiyahuu - Finance Officer

Khaliun joined Projects Abroad in April 2012 after working in a construction company as an economist. She is responsible for various accounting tasks and financial analysis. She has a great sense of humor and makes everybody smile. She loves music and is a big fan of Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Ariunzaya joined the Projects Abroad team in July 2014. She graduated from the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology with a Master’s degree and received her Bachelor’s degree at the National University of Mongolia, where she majored in financial management. She loves traveling, cycling, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.

Szilard joined Projects Abroad in 2003. He manages the Romanian IT team and is primarily responsible for developing and managing our online database system and computer network worldwide.

Ciprian joined Projects Abroad in April 2006. He is responsible for maintaining our online database and creating our new operational system. He enjoys playing billiards and swimming. He also loves parkour (free running).

Marius joined Projects Abroad in August 2007. He assists with web design and development. He is passionate about climbing mountains, enjoys driving and likes listening to a wide variety of music.

Gabi joined Projects Abroad in February 2006. She is responsible for our project websites and assists with web design and publicity material. She enjoys spending time with her two "boys"; Fery, her husband, and her son Francisc.

Alex joined Projects Abroad in April 2011. He is responsible for maintaining our online database and creating our new operational system. He is passionate about mountain climbing, mountain biking and rock music.

Antonio Gallo - Head of Design

Tonio has been in charge of the Design Office since it was founded back in 2005 and is responsible for brand management and producing any graphic or visual materials our marketing offices need. He likes to travel the world when time and money allows. Tonio enjoys art in its very diverse forms, from video installations to graffiti, as well as extreme sports, especially skateboarding.

Fabiola has been working with us since 2009 and is the only girl in the team. Fabiola is focused on editorial design and enjoys experimenting with layouts for magazines and documents of any kind. She's committed to the environment and promotes recycling and other measures both in the office and her home. She likes going to live music gigs.

Andres is the new kid on the block. He's now a solid member of the team and has proven to be very effective when speaking about handling and administrating audio-visual material. As a fan of both art and commercial films, he is a reliable source to speak to when wanting a recommendation. He dreams of making his own independent film.

Blanca has spent all her life in Cochabamba, Bolivia and has done a variety of different jobs including teaching, translating and sales before joining the Projects Abroad Travel Team in January 2011. She studied Linguistics at university and loves spending time with her family especially her young son David.

Tatiana was born in Potosi and now lives in Cochabamba. She has a degree in Linguistics. She has previously worked as a receptionist and an administration assistant in a Chinese company. She joined Projects Abroad in January 2012 and loves meeting people from other countries.

Jesica joined the Projects Abroad travel team in September 2014. She graduated from Vatel Buenos Aires with a Master’s degree in Hospitality Management. Previously, she worked in the hospitality industry in Argentina and the United States before returning to Cochabamba, Boliva. She loves traveling, listening to music and photography.

David Flaschner - Digital Marketing Manager

David Flaschner - Digital Marketing Manager

David graduated from Leeds University in 2007 with a degree in Classical Civilisation. He then spent a year volunteering at a Football Project with Projects Abroad in Ghana. He manages digital marketing and supervises our recruitment teams in the UK, France, Ireland and Spain.

David has visited Ghana, Sri Lanka, the Galapagos Islands, South Africa, and Cambodia.

Bethany Evans - Director of UK Marketing

Bethany Evans - Director of UK Marketing

Beth joined the Projects Abroad Administration team in 2012 before joining the Recruitment team as a Programme Advisor a year later. She manages recruitment and print and online advertising in the UK, and also speaks to potential volunteers and attends career fairs. Beth enjoys spending time with friends or family, going to music festivals and loves to travel.

She has visited South Africa, Ethiopia, China, Mongolia, Tanzania and Argentina.

Ian Birbeck - Group Trips Manager

Ian is in charge of our Group Trips programmes. He regularly visits schools and groups around the UK to talk about plans for group trips, as well as attending many general school talks and career fairs. Ian has been involved with Projects Abroad since 1992, when he was one of the very first Projects Abroad volunteers in Moldova. Ian has since worked in a variety of roles in the UK and in many of our destinations.

Rebecca Walton - Programme Advisor and Alumni Manager

Rebecca Walton - Programme Advisor and Alumni Manager

Rebecca first joined Projects Abroad as a teaching volunteer in India back in 2009. Since then she has visited Asia twice and has graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Geography and History. Rebecca is now part of the Recruitment team and speaks to potential volunteers about our projects. She also manages our team of Ambassadors who attend events around the UK.

Rebecca has visited India, Nepal, Cambodia and Morocco.

Dom Duff - Group Trips Advisor

Dom Duff - Group Trips Advisor

Dom joined the Group Trips team for Projects Abroad in 2015 after graduating with a Geology degree from the University of Brighton. He is the Content Creator for the UK Groups website as well as assisting the team in visiting schools, groups and careers fairs. Dom enjoys playing gigs with his band and numerous sports including skating, skiing, surfing and mountain biking.

Dom has visited Sri Lanka.

Will Pashley - in Australia

Will first joined as a volunteer teacher in Moldova in 1992. Since that eye opening experience he has gone through a variety of jobs and travels and now runs the Australia office from Adelaide. He is a regular sportsman who is frequently found with a cricket bat in his hand.

Claartje van Wayenburg - in Holland

Claartje van Wayenburg - in Holland

Claartje coordinates out recruitment in the Netherlands. She has joined Projects Abroad in 2008. She has worked for our office in Cape Town, volunteered with us in Thailand and has recently visited our projects in Ghana, Cambodia and Fiji. She studied Leisure Management and enjoys scuba diving and travelling.

John has a degree in English and Philosophy from NUI Galway as well as a Masters degree in Marketing. He joined Projects Abroad as a Disaster Relief Coordinator in Nepal in 2015 and is delighted to take on his new role as Recruitment Director for Ireland.

Simona has volunteering and working experience in different countries of Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. She is now back in Italy where she coordinates with Serena our new recruitment office, opened on August 2007 in the beautiful city of Naples.

Lukasz has been working for Projects Abroad in Poland since October 2011. He is an enthusiast of the Faroe Islands and in his spare time he enjoys running a website about these islands.

Lars manages the Swedish recruitment office since 2012. He has a long background in international exchange programs and enjoys visiting new countries.
Lars has visited Ghana, Peru, Romania, South Africa, Tanzania and Togo during his time with Projects Abroad.

Shigeki Nakamura - Japanese Country Director

Shigeki Nakamura - Japanese Country Director

Shigeki joined Projects Abroad in 2017 as the Country Director for Japan. His love of travel began when he first visited Hawaii with his family at the age of nine, and he later decided to study Development Studies at the University of Leeds in England. He enjoys exploring historical places such as Angkor Wat in Siem Reap and Petra in Jordan, and he hopes to add Samarkand in Uzbekistan to his expanding list. If he had the chance, Shigeki would hop on a plane and join the volunteers and team on the Building Project in Tanzania.
