Swahili Language Courses

For a rich and unique cultural immersion experience, you can learn Swahili in Kenya or Tanzania with a Projects Abroad intensive language course. You can take part in an intensive course which lasts from two weeks upwards.

Swahili is a Bantu language spoken in both Kenya and Tanzania. The Swahili language has been influenced by Arabic and more recently also by English. One of Swahili’s attributes is that its pronunciation is straightforward compared to some other languages.

Alternatively you can undertake a shorter 14-hour or 30-hour language course in Swahili that runs alongside your volunteer project. If you are planning on volunteering abroad for twelve weeks or more, you could also complete a 60-hour course alongside your project. These prices are in addition to your main project price. For more information please visit our Language Plus projects.

With accommodation in the home of a local family, you’ll learn quickly and can practise what you’ve learnt with your hosts each day. Lessons are with a qualified language teacher and are tailored to your personal level and can be adapted to your interests and preferred teaching style.
