Projects Abroad volunteers in Samoa run games for small children at their placement

Volunteers with a passion for sports and an interest in helping others progress in their own sporting capability can contribute to the Projects Abroad School Sports project in Samoa. Whether you are on a gap year or a career break, you can help children by nurturing their sporting abilities and talents and teaching them about teamwork.

As a volunteer on this project, you will work in a local school in Samoa and teach sports such as rugby, soccer, basketball, and field hockey. Health and Physical Education (HPE) has been included in the curriculum of Samoan schools and is an area in great need of assistance. If you have any experience in organizing training programs or a background in general health and fitness, you could have a meaningful impact on this project.

Volunteers coaching sports in schools usually work a minimum of 5 hours per day. There is also the option to combine school sports with a Care or Teaching project. This option continues during school vacations with our summer school program.

You can join the School Sports project in Samoa for two or three weeks if you don't have time to join us for four weeks or more. This project has been selected by our local colleagues as being suitable for short term volunteering for both the host community and the volunteer. Although you will gain a valuable cultural insight and work intensely within the local community please be aware that you may not be able to make the same impact as someone volunteering for a longer period.
